Nach Rhetorik- und Philosophiestudium an der Universität Dillingen und einer Leh…ramtstätigkeit als Leiter der Lateinschule Solothurn war Guillimann von 1595 an in Luzern als Sekretär der spanischen Gesandtschaft tätig und begann hier mit seinen Habsburg-Studien. Sein 1605 vorgelegtes Werk beschreibt die Geschichte der Habsburger von den Anfängen bis ins frühe Mittelalter und taucht die habsburgische Dynastie dabei in ein mythisches, verklärendes Licht, das die Legitimität der habsburgischen Herrschaft hervorhebt und dieser eine besondere Aura verleiht. Enthalten sind 23 Wappen-Abbildungen in Holzschnitt, 17 davon als Doppelabbildungen, somit insgesamt 40 Einzelabbildungen. Titelblatt mit in Kupfer gestochenem Habsburg-Wappen. In Anerkennung seiner Verdienste wurde Guillimann 1606 von Kaiser Rudolf II zum Professor für Geschichte an der Universität Freiburg ernannt. Guillimanns Werk darf als eine der ersten umfassenden Gesamtdarstellungen zur Frühgeschichte des Hauses Habsburg gelten. Ehemals vorhandene Schließbänder fehlend; Titelblatt mit einigen handschriftlichen Einträgen von alter Hand; Innendeckelbezüge etwas faltig; Text vereinzelt mit minimalen Anstreichungen (unauffällig). Sonst außen und innen sehr gutes Exemplar dieser seltenen frühen Habsburg-Historie; Seiten frisch und fleckenfrei.
