Maxime Guisolan, originaire de Chénens (FR), fut nommé évêque du diocèse de Lausanne en septembre 1803, succédant à Jean-Baptiste Odet. Spécialiste de droit canon, Mgr. Guisolan fit publier cette nouvelle mouture des «Decreta.» dans la lignée de ceux édités par Mgr. Strambin en 1665 et dans l'esprit des dispositions du Concile de Trente.
