Original drawing signed by Sidney Smith of The Gumps and featuring it's main character, Andy Gump and his wife, Min. The Gumps was an early 20th century American comic strip, one of the first real soap opera strips that rivaled the radio soaps in its prime and inspired films and merchandise Its creator became very wealthy and was so popular that he became the first cartoonist to sign a contract for$100,000 in 1935. Unfortunately, he was killed in a car crash the same day the contract with signed. The Gumps strip changed hands and ran until 1959 - a forty-two year run! 8" x 10". Ink and watercolor on cardstock. Mild toning/foxing else near fine. Signed and dated by artist.
