First Edition: Original grey boards, hardback, gilt lettering against a maroon background for title on the spine, a little sunned, corners slightly bowed, some background wear but generally clean and tight, illustrated endpapers being using two shades of red (pink and maroon) , table with two wine glasses and bottle of wine and a game of dominoes, coloured frontispiece being 'The CafT Royale by Sir William Orpen, 211 pages including the bibliography and index, the book opens with the Contents 17 different chapters, followed by the list of illustrations, 37 illustrations in total, Foreword and Acknowledgements 11-14 by the authors, Chapter One begins on page 15 - 'Dominoes and Marble Tops, ' on page 16 there is a distinctive illustration in black and white by Aubrey Beardsley entitled 'Garcons de CafT, ' the old CafT Royale was frequented by a wealth of famous people over the years, the stories within this book include names like Oscar Wilde, Aleister Crowley and work by Max Beerbohm, Aubrey Beardsley, CRW Nevinson, Augustus John etc. This CafT Royale gained a reputation for being the in- place for certain kinds of artists and writers to gather. The old CafT Royale was a presigious establishment with a history of its own and that is what this book concentrates on. The modern CafT Royale cannot be confused with the previous establishment was run in the past. This is a fascinating book delightfully illustrated and full of anacdotes about a range of exceptionally brilliant people who were its regular customers. Size 9.25 x 6.25 inches approx. Internally very good indeed, smart with clean fully readable pages without foxing or marks, illustrations very good condition without flaws.

Internally very good. On the fly-leaf is a gift presentation from the boxing journalist Steve Fagan to Frank Duffett. Frank Duffett was one of Britain`s greatest boxing trainers. He was born and lived all his life in the Camberwell area of London and worked with many British champions, including Jack Doyle, Len Harvey, Freddie Mills and Billy Walker. Duffett produced his own British title holders in John and Pat McCormack and Paddy McGuire and also worked closely with European heavyweight champion Dick Richardson. Frank Duffett died in 1993 aged 81.
