A very good copy of the First Edition in original publisher cloth with frontis portrait and four illustrations 8vo 290pps. The author was a key figure in the North of England Temperance League and strongly supported by Lord & Lady Carlisle of Castle Howard who provided him and his large family with accommodation on the estate.It is rumoured that his influence on the countess was so great that she had the contents of the wine cellar of Castle Howard emptied into the lake and that many plants and fishes died.
