Der bedeutende Medizinhistoriker betonte in seinem Werk die sozialen und ökonomischen Aspekte der Medizin. Sigerist war Mitglied und zum Teil Präsident vieler wissenschaftlicher Gesellschaften und erhielt zahlreiche Ehrungen» (HLS).
