First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. See photos for condition details. Softcover, the book appears on used as many sections of the page quadrants are still uncut along the upper and long edges. Even though this shows the book was never utilized or read the condition was marked as VG because of the toning and creases on the exterior wrappers as well as a corner bumps on the upper right that can be felt through the entire book. There's also a small split on the covering of the exterior spine area. The internal pages or handwriting and marking free, which is no surprise as the majority the pages are still uncut. The paper does show toning due to age but the unseparated pages makes this a rather unique copy. We acquired a large collection of chess books over 40 years ago, most of which were then packed away, and the boxes finally opened at the time of this listing - which is why the condition of this book looks like one that was not typically in circulation for all of these years.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'This is an exceptionally interesting and well researched book on a topic of enormous importance. It brings careful ethnographic fieldwork to bear on the new 'culture of rights' that has developed in democratized post-colonial African states such as Malawi, and by doing so develops a powerful and consequential critique.'--James Ferguson, Stanford University'In this exceptionally rich and thought-provoking study of human rights fundamentalism in Malawi, Harri Englund makes an original contribution to debates on democracy, freedom, civil society, and poverty in Africa. His vivid ethnographic prose brings to life Malawian human rights activists, their expatriate benefactors as well as the urban and rural poor. This is a major contribution on a major topic.'--Francis B. Nyamnjoh, Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa.
