Includes an introduction by Herbert Stanley Jevons, not to be confused with his more-famous father, William Stanley Jevons; and a substantial (50-pp) updated Preface by Furnivall. This copy from the library of noted poet, translator, and anthropologist Nathaniel Tarn, with his ownership signature (as EM Mendelson, the name he used during his years in Burma) to front endpaper. Economic study of colonial Burma (now Myanmar), where Furnivall was a colonial administrator from 1906 to 1931. Known as an arch-colonialist, he was the author of many works on Burmese society, politics, and economic development.
