Die Lauenstein'sche Wagenfabrik entwickelte sich seit den 1840er Jahren in seinen Werken in Hammerbrook und Rothenburgsort zu einem der führenden Hersteller von Kutschen und Pferdewagen sowie Eisenbahnwagen. *1869 kam es zu einer dr…amatischen Entwicklung bei Lauenstein, als in Folge einbrechender Geschäfte die Akkordsätze um 25 % gesenkt wurden. Es folgte ein neunwöchiger Streik, dem die Direktion mit dem Anheuern von Streikbrechern begegnete. Schließlich eskalierte die Lage am 7. September 1869, als rund 500 Streikende angriffen, die Streikbrecher verprügelten und die Produktionsstätten verwüsteten. Direktor Kirchweger mußte zu Fuß flüchten und erschoß dabei einen seiner Arbeiter. Schließlich erfolgte eine Einigung, bei der die Lohnkürzungen zurückgenommen und der Betrieb wieder aufgenommen wurde. Die entstandenen Schäden waren aber so gravierend, dass das Unternehmen kurz darauf Konkurs anmeldete und von Investoren aus Hamburg und Berlin übernommen wurde.* [S.Tuschick, Sebtus Dänische Eisenbahnen] Die angebotenen Protokolle stammen aus dem Insolvenzverfahren, das wohl so großes öffentliches Interesse erregte, dass es zu einer Drucklegung kam.
