Hackleplume January 7th 1922.' The Canterbury Bell appears on p147, and in the Index on p211 we learn this is Mr Oliver de Ath. From the author's Preface: 'My Lady's Garden was planted to give pleasure to all who have suffered, or are suffering, through the War.' Cream illustrated cloth, green titles. 11 colour plates with captioned tissue guards by Marjorie Raynor. Condition: Very good. Light edgewear. Cloth grubby, titles and illustration a little rubbed. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, without dedication on half-title page. Inscription reads, 'The Wisteria of the/Anti-aircraft/His copy./Hackleplume/July 29th 1921'. Although not named in the inscription, on page 26 the line which begins 'So wisteria' is marked and has the printed footnote Lieutenant Eric Marzetti. The book is bound in white cloth, lettered green on the on upper cover and spine, with a representation of a hot-red poker plant which is blocked green and red on the upper cover. Illustrated with eleven full-page colour plates, as called for, by Marjorie Raynor which have tissue-guards with printing on to identify plants. A memorial in verse to those who fought in the First World War. The book pays tribute to many men from different parts of the Armed Forces; some four hundred men are identied in footnotes in the text. The different parts of the Armed Forces include; the Black Watch, Royal Sussex Regiment, the Royal Army Medical Corps, other Army regiments and the Royal Navy. The Index lists the names of men and the plant names by which they are referred to in the poems. There is general wear to the white cloth boards with some spotting, dusting and small soiling; some chipping to the lettering and pictorial illustration on the covers; couple of small dints to edges of covers; spotting and dusting to edges of pages; age tanning to endpapers and paste-downs, with occasional spotting throughout; small number written on front paste-down; else a good copy of a SCARCE first edition SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.
