Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First edition: date on title page and no indication of later printings on the copyright page. Thin 4to blue decorated cloth stamped in white. Illustrated throughout with full-page and in-text color and b/w drawings by the Haders. A fine copy in a good plus dus…t jacket which is lacking the front flap and thus the price, and with two one-inch chips at the center spine and wear to the spine tips and corners. The absence of a Caldecott sticker and inclusion of only previous titles in the advertisements on the rear flap strongly suggest a first printing jacket. Winner of the Caldecott Medal for 1949. Bert and Elmer Hader (illustrator).
