First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Illustrated with eight pages of photographs. You can see the covers in my photos. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The top edge of the spine has just a little crinkle. The cover edges are in very good shape, no rubbing. Same goes for the cover corners. The page edges look good. The top page one has a yellow tint. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are also yellow. They're perfectly clean. The same goes for all the pages in the book. Scrolling through, I haven't found any instances of soiling. I'm not finding any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corner creases, no placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The dust jacket is in solid condition. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. There is one tiny loss off the front top edge. There is also a small triangular tear off the front bottom edge. I don't see any other tears. The jacket is very clean. The flaps are in solid shape, clean, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. From the jacket: 'In telling the story of his career Hal Prince deals self-critically with his experience in the theatre and gives his candid opinions on such varied subjects as the harm a star can do to a show, the single-mindedness of unions, the choice of the right theatre, the power of the critic, good and bad, and most important, the director as producer.' Here are a few of the plays Hal Prince produced: The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, West Side Story, the Pulitzer Prize winning Fiorello!, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Fiddler on the Roof. He also worked in the dual capacity of director and producer on Cabaret, Zorba, Company, A Little Night Music, Candide, amongst others.
