Many held that the nervous system was insensitive to radiation but scientific evidence was developing that indicated that this belief might only be partly true. To come to a better understanding, scientists need to consider the nervous system in their over-all outlook. This should begin with a review of neonatal aspects, histopathological effects, ablation of specific central nervous system areas by a prticulate irradiation, evaluation of functional changes, and psychological effects of irradiation on animal performance. The international symposium was convened and much of the information presented there now appear in this volume.

This document is a compilation of the constitutional provisions, Federal and State laws, and rules of the two major political parties governing the nomination and election of the President and Vice President of the United States. It lists the States holding presidential preference primaries and the dates of such primaries; it also describes the manner of selection delegates to the national conventions, the dates such selections are to be made, and the number of delegates to be selected. Two surveys of the roles of the major political parties and of the election laws of the fifth States and the District of Columbia are included related to the selection of delegates to the national nominating conventions and to the nomination and election of electors of the President and Vice President. Abstracts of the laws relating to minor and new parties, independent candidates and corrupt practices are also included. The information contain is based on the laws in effect as of January 8, 1980. The Foreword noted that there were a number of changes since the 1960 presidential election. This 1980 edition reflects the many changes in the election laws of the several states since the 1976 election. Various State laws referred to in this document may be amended subsequent to publication; similarly, political party constitutions, rules and delegate selection plans may also be amended. Every effort had been made to provide the latest statutes, party rules and delegate selection plans.
