Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Hardcover. 4to. Published by University of North Texas Press, Denton, TX. 2002. 120 pgs. Illustrated. Publications of the Texas Folklore Society LIX. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine . Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. El Charro, or man on horseback, has represented the spirit of independent Mexico since he played an important role in the 1821 revolution. He is the Mexican version of the American cowboy, only much older, arising from the ranch culture first brought to Mexico by the Spanish. The charreada is his rodeo, his opportunity to show off both his skills with rope and horse and his decorative, elegant costume. It is at the center of Mexican heritage and self-image, a source of mythology and genuine heroes that has been brought to Texas by immigrants. And since 1989, it has included women, charras, who participate in elaborate and difficult riding formations. San Antonio photographer Al Rendon has taken this ideal subject for the camera and created a collection of splendid sepia photographs reproduced in duotone. The photos juxtapose the grit of the arena with the poise and polish of the charros, charras, and their horses. The essays, by Julia Hambric, Bryan Woolley, and F. E. Abernethy, describe the history of the charreada and its roots in Mexican culture. Hambric's essay also details the costumes and events prescribed by tradition and the Federacion Nacional de Charro. Together, this is a unique examination of an important part of Mexico's heritage.; Publications Of The Texas Folklore Society; 9 X 0.5 X 9 inches; 120 pages.

From the publisher: "In the story To Thee I See: From picking in the fields of Texas to cooking for dignitaries on U.S. Navy ships, a journey I wouldn't change, Arby Hambric chronicles his life from 1926-2015, when his early childhood years were plagued with surviving in a Jim Crow-era rural Texas, to how fighting in three wars in a segregated Navy turned out to be both rewarding and disheartening, but in spite of feeling overlooked after 20 years of service, he utilized the lessons learned to conquer public humiliation, overcome personal rejection, and challenge a broken political system. This book paints a true picture of deplorable restrictions to moments in history that have never been documented before, and provides a detailed analysis of the timeless wisdom that has been learned, exercised, and justified by Mr. Hambric. Which was worse, living in the deep-south during the Jim Crow-era or fighting in three wars for a segregated Navy? In To Thee I See, Arby Hambric narrates recounts of how the humiliation of merely surviving in the racist south and serving in a segregated Navy prepared him to battle illegal church activities, challenge unjust politics in his community, and overcome personal setbacks while continuing to seek the life his grandmother envisioned he was destined for -- one with meaning, purpose, and dignity.". SIGNED by the AUTHOR (his signature only). 1st ed? (No additional printings listed). Softcover. New condition. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 291pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping. 1st ed? (No additional printings listed). NOT a library discard (illustrator).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Content description This is the proceedings volume associated with the Second International Workshop on Flow Induced Noise and Vibration, bringing together research from specialists in academia, government, and industry. The volume focuses on measurement, modeling, simulation, and reproduction of flow excitation and flow-induced structural and acoustic response, with applications including underwater vehicles, aerospace structures, and commercial transportation. Topics include turbulent boundary-layer excitation, wall-pressure fluctuations, computational modeling, inverse measurement techniques, structural vibration, radiated sound, finite-element methods, scaling approaches, and prediction of structural response. It contains 22 papers and is intended as a specialized reference for researchers and engineers working in flow-induced vibration, acoustics, fluid dynamics, and related fields. Condition Description Near Fine hardcover. Unused, apparently unread copy; acquired from a bookseller specializing in publisher and distributor overstock. Sold to me as New. The book appears never to have been fully opened and the interior and page edges are exceptionally clean and fresh. No writing, highlighting, ownership marks, or other interior markings observed. Hardback. Condition: New. The book describes analytical methods (based primarily on classical modal synthesis), the Finite Element Method (FEM), Boundary Element Method (BEM), Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA), Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA), Hybrid Methods (FEM-SEA and Transfer Path Analysis), and Wave-Based Methods. The book also includes procedures for designing noise and vibration control treatments, optimizing structures for reduced vibration and noise, and estimating the uncertainties in analysis results. Written by several well-known authors, each chapter includes theoretical formulations, along with practical applications to actual structural-acoustic systems. Readers will learn how to use vibroacoustic analysis methods in product design and development; how to perform transient, frequency (deterministic and random), and statistical vibroacoustic analyses; and how to choose appropriate structural and acoustic computational methods for their applications. The book can be used as a general reference for practicing engineers, or as a text for a technical short course or graduate course.
