Hamburg, Friedrich Perthes, 1813. Oblong folio (24.5 x 38.2 cm). Title page, [ii] pp.; 16 engraved plates [numbered LI-LXVI], of which several larger, folded; all with several numbered illustrations each [numbered 294-438. Original limp blue boards. Front cover with original engraved, oval vignette with printed ornamental border and title. = A part of the very rare first edition of a work titled "Patterns for embroidery in satin stitch and tambour". This work is known to be written and illustrated by Eleonore Sophie Elisabeth Hornbostel (d. 1859), but this first edition was published anonymously. In total, six parts were published. All are rare. The text leaf, dated October 1812, contains descriptions of all plates, except the first, which appears to be deliberately omitted. In 1818 a second edition was issued, with the numbering adjusted to LII-LXVIII. A third edition was published in 1828. Two folded leaves detached; wrappers somewhat worn and stained; wrapper edges a bit frayed, with a few, short tears. Otherwise very good and wonderful item with stunning plates.
