Condition: VG lg sz PB. Facsimile. Grandson Charles notes in his preface that he received valuable assistance from his father General Charles Hamlin, his grandfather's right-hand man for many years. The chief feature of Hamlin's career is his anti-slavery record, the principal story of this biography, which includes a substantial account of the rise and fall of the slave party in Maine, as well as the nation. When Hanibal went to Washington, he heard loud complaints from old soldiers of the War of 1812 and also from heirs of veterans over the difficulties they had in obtaining bounty lands from the government to which they were entitled. The author also borrowed heavily from his grandson's private correspondence of 10,000 letters about the anti-slavery party. Highlighting.
