Uncolored membership certificate in the Providence Marine Society. This example has not been filled in for any member and does not bear the seal of the Society which is attached to certificates which were presented to members. Excellent condition. The imprint is somewhat light, indicating that this may have been a somewhat later impression from the original plate. There are 5 different illustrations on this sheet, being a scene of war ships at sea, Neptune in his chariot, a shipwreck along a coast, the American eagle, and a long horizontal view of Providence Harbor. Drawn by T. Young. Stauffer 1249. Hamlin was among the earliest Providence engravers. He was a dealer in nautical and scientific equipment and instruments who also engaged in engraving. See Stauffer I, p.116.
