Peter Andreas Hansen was a Danish astronomer who studied the problems of gravitational astronomy. This was his revision of the lunar theory which was the basis for improved lunar tables published in 1857 which were used until 1923. Hansen twice visited England and was twice (in 1842 and 1860) the recipient of the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society.
