Für die Materialrecherche bereiste er verschiedene Ordenskollegien, wie etwa Wien, Neustadt, Krems und schließlich auch Rom, wo ihm die Ordenssammlungen sowie das Inventar anderer Bibliotheken zugänglich gemacht wurden. Diese Germania sacra", blieben allerdings unvollendet, es wurden lediglich die Bistümer Lorch, Passau und Salzburg sowie die Einleitung "Prodromus" zum Bistum Regensburg publiziert. Daneben erarbeitete Hansiz Materialsammlungen zur Geschichte der Diözesen Wien, Wiener Neustadt, Seckau, Lavant und Gurk. Außerdem verfasste er auch diverse kleinere Abhandlungen, die sich hauptsächlich mit kanonischen und dogmatischen Themen auseinandersetzen. Zur Arbeitsweise und Methodik Hansiz' bleibt anzumerken, dass er hervorragende Quellenkenntnis, nüchterne Kritik und eine gute Darstellungsgabe in sich vereinte.
