Pencil inscription to front free endpaper and half title page, with water drops and a few small nicks along text block edge. Minor dog-eared corners. Mild cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with notable bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a pronounced forward lean.

In overall good used condition in a fair dj with some signs of handling and storage - dj is complete but rubbed, chipped and nicked to edges with a couple of repairs; illustrated blue cloth boards are rubbed to edges and faded where the dj is chipped. Binding overall tight and appears little read - minor crack to gutter at half-title, no annotations - 4 word gift inscription to half-title and remains of a postage (?) stamp to reverse of frontispiece; toning and slight spotting to page-ends and endpapers but text, illustrations and maps at endpapers bright and clear throughout.
