Seller: Black Falcon Books, Wellesley, MA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Presumed first; preface dated Nov. 26, 1800; title page states "Printed and fold by the AUTHOR; fold also by D. HEATON, Providence, and various other Book-Sellers in the United States--Jan. 1801." This is a reader that would have been used in schools to expose students to the writings of such heavy-hitters as Cicero, Addison, Franklin, Sterne, and Goldsmith. The book has wooden boards; it looks like something once covered the boards but they're now bare. The front endpaper has an inscription from a former owner that reads (approximately): "Property of Joel Richards / Sharon / April 25, 1804." There are colored-marker drawings on the inside front and rear boards that are obviously late-20th century; otherwise the book seems to be a rare artifact from more than two centuries ago. Sleeve protected.
