Notre édition contient, in fine un glossaire constitué d'une centaine de mots. Guaita 1550. Dujols, VI 1909-1910, n° 310 : « Très rare. Savant traité de haute mystique imprégné de kabbale, où le savant rabbin Abrabanel donne la clef des mystères divins, l'analogie et les rapports du macrocosme et du microcosme et la sublime alchimie des choses spirituelles. » Voir à propos de cet ouvrage la très longue et érudite notice donnée par Salomon Munk dans le Dictionnaire des Sciences Philosophiques d'Adolphe Franck, 2ème édition, Paris, Hachette 1875 (pp. 934, 935, 936) : « LÉON HÉBREU, philosophe juif qui se rendit célèbre au commencement du XVIe siècle, par ses Dialogues d'amour, est connu parmi ses coreligionnaires sous le nom de Juda Abravanel. [.] Quelques auteurs ont prétendu que Léon embrassa le christianisme ; mais ce fait n'a pas le moindre fondement [.] nous ferons remarquer qu'on trouve dans les Dialogues un grand nombre de passages qui montrent que l'auteur professait le judaïsme : plusieurs fois, en parlant de Maimonide, il l'appelle « il nostro rabbi Moïse [.] On ne saurait admettre, non plus, qu'il ait plus tard changé de religion : car il est mentionné dans les termes les plus honorables par les rabbins Guedalia Jahia et Azaria de Rossi, tous deux du XVIe siècle [.] Leon est l'unique représentant, parmi les Juifs, de ce nouveau platonisme qui, introduit en Italie par le Byzantin Gémiste Piéthon et par son disciple le cardinal Bessarion, fut propagé avec enthousiasme par Marcille Ficin, et que le comte Jean Pic de La Mirandole maria avec le mysticisme de la kabbale juive [.] L'ouvrage se compose de trois dialogues entre Philon et son amante Sophie. Le premier dialogue traite de l'essence de l'amour [.] Le deuxième dialogue traite de l'universalité de l'amour [.] Le troisième dialogue traite de l'origine de l'amour, et ici l'auteur aborde les plus hautes questions métaphysiques [.] Pour établir quand naquit l'amour, l'auteur développe les trois principaux systèmes sur l'origine de toute chose : celui d'Aristote, qui soutient l'éternité du monde ; celui de Platon, qui admet un chaos éternel, mais qui attribue un commencement à la formation au monde ; et celui des croyants, qui admettent la création ex nihilo [.] Revenant à son sujet, l'auteur remonte au premier amour qui est celui que Dieu a pour lui- même [.] Ce premier amour est éternel comme Dieu lui-même. Dieu est l'unité de l'amour, de l'amant et de l'aimé, ou, comme disent les péripatéticiens, de l'intellect, de l'intelligent et de l'intelligible. Le second amour, ou le premier qui naquît, est celui que Dieu a pour l'univers ; ici trois différentes amours se rencontrent : l'amour de Dieu envers le père et la mère du monde, engendrés de Dieu et qui sont l'intellect premier et le chaos : l'amour réciproque de ces parents du monde ; et l'amour mutuel de toutes les parties de l'univers [.] Ici l'auteur développe la théorie de l'émanation dans les diverses nuances qu'elle avait prises chez les Arabes, fait ressortir quelques points dans lesquels Averroès diffère des autres philosophes de sa nation, et montre comment la beauté divine se communique successivement aux divers degrés de la création, jusqu'à l'intellect humain. La quatrième question, celle de savoir de qui naquit l'amour, conduit l'auteur à l'Interprétation des diverses fables des poètes anciens sur la naissance d'Eros ou Cupidon.
