Die Sammlung dokumentiert in Handschriften und Typoskripten die memoriale und genealogische Selbstüberlieferung eines bildungsbürgerlich-adligen Familienkreises. Enthalten sind u. a. mehrere Manuskripte des deutschen Ingenieurs und Handelskammerpräsidenten Clemens von Velsen (1905 - 1983), darunter Berliner Briefe 1945 - 1947 (über Kämpfe um Berlin, Besetzung der Stadt und Entnazifizierung), Hannoveraner Briefe 1954 - 1983 und Vorträge und Ansprachen 1950 - 1983, ferner diverse Erinnerungs- und Briefbände des deutschen Offiziers Stefan von Velsen (1876 - 1969). Hinzu treten Manuskriptbände aus der Familie Hecker, darunter Briefe aus sechs Jahrzehnten 1941 - 2001, Reden und Vorträge 1951 - 2008, Gröninger Briefe 1936 - 1945 sowie Briefe aus Gröningen, Halberstadt und Göttingen 1944 - 1954. Besonders bemerkenswert ist der um 1939 entstandene Band Erinnerungen der Familie Hecker, verfasst u. a. von Emy Wiersdorff und Ernst Posse, in dreifacher Ausführung und teilweise mit abweichenden Kapiteln und Textfassungen. Von besonderem Interesse sind auch die handschriftlichen Aufzeichnungen von Emy Wiersdorff, geb. Hecker (18641946), der Stammbaum von Pastor Engelbert von Velsen sowie der Sammelband Erinnerungen aus den Familien Hecker und von Velsen und den verwandten Familien 1700 - 1985. Die Bände sind mit Exlibris von Friedrich Carl Hecker und Ursula Hecker geb. von Velsen versehen, die den geschlossenen Provenienzzusammenhang belegen. Die ersten beiden Blätter der Erinnerungen Stefan von Velsens (Titel und montiertes Porträt) etwas berieben, sonst nur geringe Lagerspuren; insgesamt exzellent erhalten.
