It is a trustmark. A brand is a covenant between the company and the consumer. A trusted brand is a genuine asset.' This quote is said to be from US brand consultant Larry Light that expresses two things: First, the intangible asset 'brand' is of (great) value and second, the value is defined by the bond the brand creates between the consumer and the company. Both parties - company and customer - profit as the brand creates customer loyalty and facilitates consumers' choice decision by reducing risk (Dall'Olmo Riley and de Chernatony 2000, p.140/141). A company's brand value is the advantages a brand provides, such as being able to charge a premium and/or the mentioned customer loyalty. This added value is called brand equity (Aaker 1996, p.68). We shall understand brands as Kapferer (1997, p.6) describe them: as a promise. 'A brand is an impression perceived in a client's mind [.]. It is the sum of all tangible and intangible elements, which makes the selection unique. A brand is [.] all the attributes that come to the consumer's mind when he or she thinks about the brand'. Although brands and branding are often used as interchangeable concepts, branding - the activity - should in this essay be understood according to Keller's (2002, p.151) description: as activities to create a (strong) brand. In this essay, the author explains the value and types of brands, the process of brand-building - for corporate and place brands -, the link of brands to corporate and place identity and the concept of a holistic brand. All is done with focus on the importance of (building) relationships with stakeholders in branding.

Until fairly recently, Eugene Fama's Efficient Market Hypothesis was the predominant paradigm explaining asset markets but today it is widely acknowledged that markets can be irrational and investors are prone to act irrationally. When trying to explain gold market anomalies, behavioural science approaches can be useful. Phenomena such as herding ('group think'), 'safe value bias' and investors' 'excessive extrapolation' can help explain positive price performance over a certain time.In this dissertation, the author investigates the applicability of a multivariate ARIMA (auto-regressive, integrated, moving average) model to help explain gold price movements from 1973 to 2011. This model uses the gold price and independent variables such as inflation, real interest rates, silver prices, the US dollar money supply (M2), oil prices, the MSCI World index and the S&P 500 as these are linked to gold and/or highly correlated with the gold price. The evaluation criteria were defined as R-squared, mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and BIC. The model was calculated over so-called 'normal times' and times of crises (one political, one financial). The researcher used SPSS' Expert Modeler to find the best-fitting ARIMA model and to identify the independent variables significantly contributing to the fit of the model. Remarkably, a multivariate ARIMA model using independent variables explained almost twice as much of the variability of the gold price as a univariate ARIMA model using only the gold price. Also, throughout the complete period and during normal times the model explained a much higher percentage of the variability of the gold price than during crises and comparably more of the independent variables contributed significantly to the fit of the model (5 vs. 2). This can be explained by investors' tendencies to buy gold to preserve their assets ('safe value'), to follow the crowd ('herding') and to extrapolate past price chart developments.The results show that in an attempt to discern the cause of gold price movements, a multivariate ARIMA model outperforms a univariate ARIMA model significantly. The results of the study furthermore indicate researchers evaluating different methods to fit a time series should consider a multivariate ARIMA model, especially if the independent variables are highly correlated with the dependent variable.

Die stärksten Effekte wurden für die Nachrichten oder für Sendungen wie 'Aktenzeichen XY ungelöst', 'Notruf' oder Ähnliche erwartet, da es sich um Bilder realer Gewalt oder um dokumentarische Darstellungen von Gewalt handelt.Die Kultivierungsthese hat sich in den meisten betrachteten Studien bestätigt: Vielseher erleben eine in Richtung TV-Wirklichkeit verzerrte Realität. Der Einfluss ist am stärksten für privat-kommerzielles Fernsehen, welches von Heranwachsenden präferiert wird. Nicht eindeutig ist die Wirkungsrichtung zwischen TV-Konsum und Furcht.

Die Berichterstattung über vier der grösseren Anschläge - je zwei mit der republikanischen und der loyalistischen Seite als Aggressor - wurden in der vorliegenden Arbeit untersucht: Es sollten die Frames, der Berichterstattung zugrunde liegende Denkmuster, die sich zusammensetzen aus definierten Problemen, Problemlösungen und Bewertungen der Artikel, identifiziert werden; dabei interessierte insbesondere der Ideologie-Vergleich zwischen den untersuchten Zeitungen 'Belfast Telegraph', 'Irish News', 'News Letter', 'Irish Times' sowie 'The Times': Es wurde vermutet, dass sich die Frames in der Berichterstattung über dieselben Ereignisse unterscheidet; die Auswertung zeigte, dass sich die Frames in den verschiedenen Zeitungen tatsächlich unterscheiden und auch der Anteil der Artikel ohne Frame divergierte, jedoch keinesfalls in allen Fällen wie dies vom Autor vermutet worden war.The Northern Ireland Conflict, a war between republican and loyalist paramilitaries that claimed primarily civil victims, killed about 3000 people in total and could - the longer the conflict lasted, the more - best be characterised as a series of tit-for-tat murders. The coverage of four of the bloodiest incidents of the conflict - with both paramilitary sides twice being the aggressor - was the subject of this study. More specifically, the author was analysing which frames underlying the articles. Frames were defined as the compo-sition of a problem, the solution of the problem and an appraisal. Of most interest was the comparison between the journals of different countries and especially of different ideologies and readership. The media sample was: 'Belfast Telegraph', 'Irish News' and 'News Letter' of Northern Ireland, 'Irish Times' of Ireland and 'The Times' of England. The hypothesis was that the frames in the coverage would differ between the newspapers. The analysis of the results showed different frames and a different proportion of articles without frame, but not at all in every case were the results as expected.

Für Heranwachsende, im Besonderen jene, die eine ausgeprägte Präferenz für privat-kommerzielles Fernsehen aufweisen, wurden stärkere Effekte erwartet. Die stärksten Effekte wurden für die Nachrichten oder für Sendungen wie 'Aktenzeichen XY ungelöst', 'Notruf' oder Ähnliche erwartet, da es sich um Bilder realer Gewalt oder um dokumentarische Darstellungen von Gewalt handelt.Die Kultivierungsthese hat sich in den meisten betrachteten Studien bestätigt: Vielseher erleben eine in Richtung TV-Wirklichkeit verzerrte Realität. Der Einfluss ist am stärksten für privat-kommerzielles Fernsehen, welches von Heranwachsenden präferiert wird. Nicht eindeutig ist die Wirkungsrichtung zwischen TV-Konsum und Furcht. 32 pp. Deutsch.

Today, two of the most renowned factor models to estimate expected returns of an asset or a firm are the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), introduced by Treynor (1962), Sharpe (1964), Lintner (1965) and Mossin (1966), and the three-factor model of Fama and French of 1992 (Bartholdy and Peare 2004, p.408).
