Paper Boards. Condition: Near fine. The Luncheon for the Honorable Harry S. Truman, held July 2, 1953 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, with a great inscription to his Treasury Secretary, John W. Snyder. The luncheon was hosted by The American Weekly newspaper. (illustrator). Luncheon Menu. Octavo, [8pp]. Printed card stock boards, title printed in black ink. Bound with red, white and blue string. Photograph of Harry Truman in Independence, Missouri, affixed to half title. Includes luncheon menu and a distinguished list of guests. This copy was inscribed to Sec. John Snyder, who was in attendance at the luncheon: "To the greatest Sec. of the Treasury, from his friend, Harry Truman." John W. Snyder (1895-1985) served as the 54th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1946 to 1953 under President Harry S. Truman. Snyder was a close personal friend of Truman, which played a significant role in his appointment. During his tenure, he focused on post-World War II economic stabilization, managing the transition from a wartime to a peacetime economy, and tackling issues related to inflation and the national debt. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Marshall Plan, which aimed to rebuild and revitalize war-torn European economies. Snyder's policies also included maintaining price controls and supporting housing programs to address postwar housing shortages. He left office on January 20, 1953, and remained friends with President Truman until his passing in 1972. Signed.
