    Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Size of binding: 9 1/8" x 13 ¼" x 1" (thick); engraved halftitle by Catenacci/Hebert, titlepage printed in blue & red, engraved frontispiece of Constantine by Catenacci/Pannemaker, engraved introduction by Catenacci/Hebert; (104)pp. with 40 full-page engravings of works by Raphael & others; & other smaller in-text engravings, initial letters, tailpieces, etc. In a specially crafted binding by Heldt, with their name gilt at the base of spine (not visible in scan). Bound in full, red morocco leather over thick, molded & beveled-edged boards, with elaborate brass clasps. Spine features five raised bands with richly gilt compartments in an arabesque design, with gilt title, binders name: HELDT at base of spine. Covers feature a large double border of a floral-tooled design, with a recessed central area framing a gilt design with title, back cover shows a similar recessed area with gilt design on intertwined laurel & oak leaf wreaths & ribbons. Dentelles on turn-ins; with specially made pierced brass cross & floral form clasps & brass fittings with posts. All edges stained deep blue & gilt stamped with small stars; headbands & white watered-silk surfaced endpapers. Corners of the covers show some wear to leather, general rubbing to edges; slight gaping to outer cover corners. Inner front hinge is cracked; wear to edges of endpapers. Binding, overall is quite well preserved. Scan shows part of the front cover. Sold as an example of a Heldt bookbinding. (French text).
