A small area of discolouration to the cloth at the head of the backstrip where the dust wrapper is defective, and a little mottling to the cloth at the upper and lower boards. Free endpapers and pastedowns very lightly spotted. A very good copy in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, chipped with several centimetres of loss from the head of the spine panel, and with a little dust soiling, and some light edgewear and creasing. The debut work from the wife of the publisher Alfred Knopf, a novel set on the California-Oregon border depicting the Last Frontier of Native American Indians. Both the UK and US editions are uncommon.
