This agency, once a part of the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service (now part of United States Customs and Border Protection agency). The Border Patrol is responsible for defending the US/Mexico and the US/Canada borders, as well as other places where people attempt to enter the country illegally. This work written for a younger reader, especially those age 11 to age 14. With black & white photos supplied by the Border Patrol. Number 104 in publisher's Landmark Books series. --- In pictorial paper-covered boards with color photo of a Border Patrol officer eyeing a long stretch of the US/Mexico border; yellow topstain. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. This VG+ quality Landmark book was published by Random House in 1963; it was the first title never to have a dust jacket. The book is square, reasonably clean, with a very lightly bumped top rear corner but no edge dings. The spine ends are very lightly bumped with no fabric damage; the bottom edges have no wear but there is a tiny spot of color loss out of the bottom edge of the rear board and a bit more color loss along the fore edge of the rear board; the hinges are strong and tight. Except for a 1964 inked inscription on the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any type and paper damage of any sort. The paper is slightly toned but is very flexible. And it has perhaps a dozen photographs interspersed with the text. The book lists to Landmark #105.
