C'est une étude exhaustive de l'acoustique qui place ce traité au rang des grands livres sur le sujet. ¶ Garrison-Morton 1562 "Helmholtz' theory of hearing, upon which all modern theories of resonance are based. This exhaustive study of acoustics ranks as one of the greatest books on the subject." - Horblit 49a - Honeyman coll. 1643 - Norman Libr. 1044 - DSB VI.253 "Helmholtz's greatest achievement in physiological acoustics lay in formulating the resonance theory of hearing. He incorporated all these results in his great work Die lehre von den Tonempfindungen als physiologische Grundlage für die Theorie der Musik.
