Comme le précise l'auteur dans la préface, après avoir commis depuis des années un roman, de longues études et des articles passionnés sur la Corse, l'auteur, parcequ'il est insulaire, craint toujours de n'avoir pas suffisamment préparé le lecteur continental à entendre des récits qui paraissent d'un autre âge C'est un texte documentaire et critique, à rapprocher de textes objectifs, à proprement parler de reportages. The illustrator of the book is Henri Epstein (18921944) the Polish-French painter and graphic artist. Studied in ?ód? and Munich. His initially fauvist style evolved later towards expressionism. He was also active in the Yiddish cultural renaissance and published articles in various Yiddish art magazines. In 1944 he was interned to Drancy and deported to Auschwitz where he was murdered. En 1921, Henri Epstein illustre le livre de Gustave Coquiot, Vagabondages. Son épouse, Mauricia Coquiot, qui fréquenta de nombreux artistes, fut une artiste de cirque et une femme politique.
