A fine copy. "Printed for Henry Broderick, Christmas 1967, by Frank McCaffrey at the Dogwood Press, Seattle, USA." "At this point, the reader is cautioned that what follows is not a history of Seattle. It has to do with personalities and characters that were part of the roots of our City. . Let us now look in on a few personalities or characters that were caught in the limelight around the turn of the century. . In the main, they will be men with whom the writer had some kind of personal contact--men who stood out in the crowd because they were endowed with extra ability, originality or eccentricity, or perhaps were lucky enough to be on the spot when the spotlight was turned on." The author briefly describes some events that happened during the early history of Seattle such as the Klondike Gold Rush, the city's railroad days, and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific (A-Y-P) Exposition. People featured in his essays include aristocrat and entrepreneur Harry Whitney Treat, impresario John Considine and his brother, Tom, tycoon and banker Jacob Furth, musician Nicholas Oeconomacos, dog lovers Melody Choir and Tom Dutton, businessman Victor Hugo Smith, who built the Triangle Hotel and Bar which still stands to this day, and real estate developer James A. Moore. Henry Broderick (1880-1975) lived in Seattle for much of his life and was a successful realtor and local historian.
