The volume is a borderline 12mo/16mo, measuring 170mm x 104mm. This work provides a unique contemporary perspective on the infamous late Georgian-era gentleman's gambling club, Crockford's. The volume is presented in a contemporary half-leather binding, featuring Spanish on Turkish-pattern marbled paper boards and red speckled block edges. The spine is distinguished by four raised bands, tooled compartments, and a well-preserved brown morocco title label with clear gilt lettering and a border dot pattern. The overall condition is graded as Very Good. The volume is sturdy, with a tight block and clear leaves. The binding shows light wear, with a little fraying at the head of the spine and minor rubbing and bumping to the edges and fore-corner tips. The leaves are lightly age-goldened with occasional isolated spots. The title page bears the name of a previous owner in old ink, and a small pasted label with another owner's name is affixed to the front paste-down. As a historical and literary document, this book is a valuable acquisition for collectors specialising in early 19th-century British literature, late Georgian history, works on social history, or bibliographies of gentlemen's clubs.
