Reprint of the 1671 first edition. [804] pp. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt stamped spine. Moderate shelfwear and rubbing. Internally clean and bright. A very good copy. $75…. * A facsimile of a notable 17th century English dictionary. It is one of the earliest English language books to study etymology, or the study of the origins and evolution of words. Although the book explains English words, the explanations themselves are written in Latin, which was the language used by scholars of that era. It shows how English words grew out of older languages like Anglo-Saxon (Old English), Latin, Greek, French and German by connecting English words to their "cousin" words in other European languages.
