(37,5 x 24,5 cm). Erste Ausgabe. - "The Hepplewhite Guide was influential beyond England, in America (and) in Denmark. When the book was issued in 1788 no compendium of furniture designs had appeared since 1762, when Thomas Chippendale issued the third edition of his Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director. The designs, covering many furniture types, are either plain and functional or in a competent but unadventurous neo-classical manner. Given their backward character and the fact that they appeared scarcely a year after George Hepplewhite's death, the traditional suggestion that Alice, his widow, was capitalizing on his designs seems plausible" (DNB). - Die Tafeln mit Darstellungen von Stühlen, Sofas, Konsolen, Schreibtischen, Bücherschränken, Hängeregalen, Lesepulten, Ofenschirmen, Wandleuchtern, Sekretären, Kartentischen, Spiegel- und Toilettentischen, Baldachinbetten, Kommoden, Garderobenschränken, Vasen, Lampen etc. - Stempel einer fürstlichen Bibliothek auf dem Titel. Stellenweise leicht stockfleckig bzw. gebräunt, die Tafeln 90-94 etwas stärker. Vorsätze leimschattig. Rücken sorgsam restauriert. Insgesamt gut erhalten. - Brunet III, 105; vgl. Ornamentstichkatalog 1233 (Ausg. 1789). - Selten komplett so wie hier.
