Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by Wyeth, N. C. (illustrator). Crisp, clean pages, if modestly age-toned throughout; sewn binding is square and secure, full red cloth hard cover showing only some softening and tiny fabric tears at spine ends and some dimming and flaking of the gilt titles at the spine, otherwise very well-kept. 420pp.; 8 b/w illus. "The prairies took me, an ignorant, orphaned canal hand, and made me something much better." A sometimes overlooked classic of regionalist literature, this is the first volume in a trilogy (but can be enjoyed alone, too).; 8 illustrations by Wyeth. $100+ with jacket as of 2026.

I listed this book (x-lib) for some ardent Wyeth fan; as, it contains, all eight of those unusual b&w plates from Wyeth's 1921 work. The book is the First volume of a trilogy by Quick about pioneering life in Iowa. Poor binding; falling apart with a piece cut from the spine.
