The text is a late seventeenth-century comedy by the author and includes stage directions, dramatis personae, and character descriptions. The play, written in 1789, is set in 18th century London and follows an encounter between Lady Charteris, a fashionable society lady from the period, and the actress Kitty Bellairs. The work also explores what was considered to be improper behaviour â" frequenting taverns and drinking or gamblingâ" as well as adultery. The ideas and situations found within the play are highly representative of the comedic style of the time. Much like the great Restoration comedies, the story pokes fun at high society and the aristocracy. It is not only an interesting read but can also be seen as a valuable resource for historians interested in the period, theatrical scholars, and fans of the dramatic arts. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

This book presents an engaging character study of Shakespeare's Juliet as portrayed by a grandmother recounting her memories as a stage actress. This entertaining and nostalgic reminiscence is set in the early twentieth century, a time when acting was considered scandalous for women, and especially for aristocratic women. The author offers a unique perspective on the Bard's classic through the eyes of a woman who has not only acted the part of Juliet but who also has a granddaughter who has recently played the role herself. It is a book about secrets, both personal and familial, and about the power of storytelling to traverse generations. An insightful and affectionate portrayal of a grandmother and an artist, this book will delight theatre lovers and fans of classic literature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. This book, a witty and spirited comedy in one act, follows the misadventures of Mrs. Hillary Digby, a wealthy and eccentric lady who is obsessed with her pet dog, Birdie. Set in a boarding house in Bayswater, London, the play unfolds as Mrs. Digby's relentless demands for Birdie's comfort and well-being clash with the sensibilities of her fellow boarders. The author uses this premise to explore themes of social hierarchy, the absurdity of upper-class affectations, and the lengths to which people will go for their beloved pets. Through a series of hilarious misunderstandings and sharp observations, this book provides a lighthearted and entertaining critique of society's obsession with status and appearances.
