First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Hachette Filippachi Media U.S., Inc., 2004. The May, 2004 issue of Premiere, The Movie Magazine. Quarto, illustrated stapled wraps, 120 pp. Very Good; peripheral wear at a small scale, light rubbing, bottom right front cover corner crease which also affects first few pages, original subscribers mailing label (address present, though blocked for scanning). Overall, quite bright and clean. Orlando Bloom is the cover boy for the May, 2004 issue, and the article on him withing promotes the film 'Troy'. Premiere published this popular mag for cinephiles and entertainment junkies (like all of us) from 1987 to 2007 in the U.S., then shut its doors, and went online to die, as so many publications did in the 2000s. Its website version is now long gone, too, of course. The inspiring original Premiere, which was French, is still published there (in other countries, publications don't have to net tens of millions to be kept alive). Other articles inside this issue include Quentin Tarantino (on the Kill Bills), Hugh Jackman (Van Helsing), '59 New Movies' covering about every star you know, Diane Kruger ('Helen', in Troy), Matthew Perry, Julie Andrews, and so on - see scans of contents pages. Scarce example of a now-defunct magazine in what is, in the U.S., a fragile category in a fragile industry. Collectible. To be shipped in a protective box - no bags here. See scans. LPR16.

Add to basketpaperback. Condition: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Paperback. Condition: New. Gear Acquisition Syndrome, also known as GAS, is commonly understood as the musicians unrelenting urge to buy and own instruments and equipment as an anticipated catalyst of creative energy and bringer of happiness. For many musicians, it involves the unavoidable compulsion to spend money one does not have on gear perhaps not even needed. The urge is directed by the belief that acquiring another instrument will make one a better player. This book pioneers research into the complex phenomenon named GAS from a variety of disciplines, including popular music studies and music technology, cultural and leisure studies, consumption research, sociology, psychology and psychiatry. The newly created theoretical framework and empirical studies of online communities and offline music stores allow the study to consider musical, social and personal motives, which influence the way musicians think about and deal with equipment. As is shown, GAS encompasses a variety of practices and psychological processes. In an often life-long endeavour, upgrading the rig is accompanied by musical learning processes in popular music.
