Jericho & New York (N.Y.), Paul A. Stroock, [1976]. 186 pp. Orig. hardcover (gray cloth with gilt lettering on spine), d./j. 8vo. - Dust jacket dam. along the edges. This book provides a critical overview of the sources surrounding the deity An (Sumerian) or Anu (Akkadian), the highest sky god in Mesopotamian mythology. In Mesopotamian tradition, Anu is known as the "Father of the Gods" and the embodiment of the sky itself. He was the head of the divine triad, together with Enlil (god of the air/wind) and Enki/Ea (god of the waters/wisdom). Wohlstein's monograph analyzes this deity from the earliest Sumerian periods up to the disappearance of cuneiform literature.
