Diese Zahlen entstammen ein…er Denkschrift des Hauptverbands der Gewerblichen Berufs genossenschaften. Tatsächlich verfügt die Bundesrepublik nur über etwa 48 Betten in Spe zialabteilungen für Brandverletzte. Diese sind fast ausschließlich von den Berufsgenossen schaften erstellt worden, decken aber nicht einmal ein Drittel des Bedarfs, nämlich für gesetzlich versicherte Arbeits-und Wegeunfälle. Zwei Drittel aller Verbrennungen und Ver brühungen ereignen sich nämlich in Haushalten, in der Freizeit und im Verkehr. Für sie fehlt es an optimalen Behandlungsmöglichkeiten. Die Bundesrepublik ist im Hinblick auf die Versorgung von Schwerbrandverletzten ein unterentwickeltes Land: Schweden, Däne mark, Holland, Frankreich, England, die Schweiz, Österreich, die CSSR und Jugoslawien verfügen zum Teil bereits seit 20 Jahren über ausreichende Behandlungszentren. Welche Gründe haben zu dieser Situation geführt 1. Schwerbrandverletzte haben keine Lobby. Entweder sie sterben oder sie werden -mehr oder weniger erfolgreich -'wiederhergestellt'. Sie sind nicht chronisch krank oder pfle gebedürftig, wie etwa Schädel-Hirn-Verletzte, Querschnittsgelähmte oder Multiple-Skle rose-Kranke, und deshalb verschwinden sie - auch nach Brandkatastrophen -bald aus dem Bewußtsein der Öffentlichkeit.
