Jahrhunderts in den Niederlanden im Auftrag des Herzogs von Berry. Überall in den Bordüren finden sich die herzoglichen Wappen, seine Embleme wie etwa den Bären sowie das Monogramm VE aus seiner Devise. Einer der Maler dürfte Andre Beauneveu aus dem Hennegau, der andere Jacquemart aus dem nordfranzösischen Städtchen Hesdin gewesen sein. Erstmalig in der Geschichte der Buchmalerei wurde ein Verfahren der Koloration angewendet, welches zuvor ausschließlich in der Tafelmalerei auftrat. Die überraschendste Eigenart der Heures de Bruxelles besteht darin, dass sie vermutlich als erste unter den großen Stundenbüchern der Zeit um 1400 die Hauptminiaturen zu den einzelnen Gebetsstunden als Vollbilder konzipierten, denen jeweils eine ganze Seite zur Verfügung stand.
