Tchaikovsky was particularly pleased with the work, writing in a letter to his brother in 1874, 'I consider it one of my best compositions; none has flowed out of me so easily and simply.' The quartet comprises four movements: Adagio-Moderato assai, Scherzo. Allegro giusto, Andante ma non tanto, and Finale. Allegro con moto. Edited by Arno Hilf and comprising violin 1, violin 2, viola and cello parts.Tschaikowskys Streichquartett Nr. 2 in F op. 22 wurde Ende 1873 geschrieben und 1874 in Moskau uraufgeführt. Nr. 85787. - Karte ist nicht gelaufen, leicht stockfleckig. - Hilf, (1858 - 1909), erhielt schon früh Violinunterricht und studierte 1871-75 am Konservatorium in Leipzig, bevor er 1878 zweiter Konzertmeister und Pädagoge am Moskauer Konservatorium wurde. 1888 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück, konzertierte mit großem Erfolg in verschiedenen Städten und war kurze Zeit Konzertmeister der Hofkapelle in Sondershausen, wo er auch am Konservatorium unterrichtete. 1889 übernahm Hilf die Stelle des Konzertmeisters des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters und wurde 1892 erster Violinlehrer am dortigen Konservatorium. The work is dedicated to the memory of Ferdinand Laub, violinist and professor at the Moscow Conservatory, who passed away in 1875. Tchaikovsky began writing the work in January 1876, and it was premiered in March the same year. The quartet is made up of four movements-Andante sostenuto-Allegro moderato, Allegretto vivo e scherzando, Andante funebre e doloroso, ma con moto, and Finale. Allegro non troppo e risoluto-and lasts around 35 minutes in performance. This edition was prepared by Arno Hilf and includes violin 1, violin 2, viola and cello parts separately.Tschaikowskys Streichquartett Nr. 3 in es-Moll op. 30 ist das letzte seiner drei Streichquartette. Das Werk ist dem Geiger und Professor des Moskauer Konservatoriums Ferdinand Laub gewidmet, der 1875 verstarb.
