A tight, clean, sound copy in red cloth covered boards with gold lettering and graphics on a black label on the spine and gold bands on the front and back boards and guilt top outside paper edges and illustrated with a full color frontispiece with moderate overall shelf wear mainly in the form of fading of the spine and along the spine edges (about 1.5") on the front and back boards plus there is some light soiling of the cloth overall plus there is some scattered spotting on the cloth plus there is some yellowing of the paper edges and front and back endpapers plus there is glue staining on the inside surface of the front board from a library label plus there are the usual library stamps, marks and label on the front endpaper, dedication page, and back endpaper plus there is some heavy glue staining and light surface damage on the inside surface of the back board that is probably from an old library pocket plus there is some glue staining, paper residue, and very light surface damage on the inside back hinge from an old library label of some sort plus there are several dogeared pages. A biography of James Talcott with an emphasis on his active business career of 60 years. It covers the years of 1854 to the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and the transformation of New York City that made it into the world's commercial and financial center.
