No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. A set of five real photo postcards (RPPCs) commemorating 5 cruises undertaken by HMS Effingham during 1928-30. Each printed in Great Britain, @137x88mm, b/w with divided back. Near fine, postally unused. HMS Effingham was one of five Royal Navy Hawkins-class heavy armament, high speed, long range cruisers designed to hunt down commerce raiders in the open ocean. Originally intended for service in WW1, it was not completed until 1925, when it was assigned to the East Indies Station, sometimes serving as a flagship. In 1932 it was brought home and reassigned to the Reserve Fleet. The East Indies Station, established in 1865, was responsible for Royal Navy operations in the Indian Ocean including the Arabian / Persian Gulf and the Red Sea, with bases at Colombo, Trincomalee, Bombay, Basra and Aden. These RPPCs were issued as mementos and to mail to friends and family back home. The rectos have route maps inset with photo of HMS Effingham and inset table giving arrival and leave dates for relevant locations as follows: (CARD 1) HMS Effingham Bay of Bengal Cruise 1927-1928: Colombo - Trinchomali - Calcutta - Rangoon - Port Blair - Madras - Trinchomali (1 Dec 1927 to 18 Feb 1928). // (2) HMS Effingham East Africa Cruise 1928: Trinchomali - Colombo - Bombay - Colombo - Seychelles - Mauritius - Dar es Salaam - Zanzibar - Mombasa - Colombo (28 Mar to 25 July 1928). // (3) HMS Effingham Persian Gulf Cruise 1928-1929: Colombo - Maldives - Trinchomali - Colombo - Bombay - Karachi - Bombay - Sur - Muscat - Henjam - Basra - Abadan - Dabai (Dubai) - Dibagh - Karachi - Bombay - Ratnigiri - Goa - Calicut - Androth - Mincoy - Colombo - Trinchomali - Madras - Trinchomali - Lacadives (29 Sep 1928 - 13 Feb 1929). // (4) HMS Effingham East African Cruise 1929: Trinchomali - Colombo - Socotra - Aden - Berbera - Seychelles - Mauritius - Rodriguez - Mauritius - Reunion - Zanzibar - Tanga - Mombasa - Colombo (2 Apr - 1 Aug 1929). // (5) HMS Effingham Bay of Bengal Cruise 1929-1930: Colombo - Trinchomali - Bombay - Karachi - Bombay - Jaigarh - Mangalore - Cochin - Trivandrum - Colombo - Trinchomali - Calcutta - Rangoon - Andamans - Nicobar - Trinchomali - Colombo (14 Oct 1929 to 1 Feb 1930).
