Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Painting of HMS Warrior by Buttersworth (illustrator). 1st Edition. States "First American Edition 1970." Not price clipped; original $5.95 price showing to jacket front flap. "Very good" jacket shows a closed 3/4-inch tear to top of front panel, and some rumpling with small tears to head and heel of spine. Previous Owner's Bookplate glued to top of dark gray FFE. Before Patrick O'Brian and Paul Weber gave us their modern versions of Lord Nelson/Horatio Hornblower, yachtsman Douglas Reemer -- writing as Alexander Kent -- gave us between 1968 and 2011 some 26 (26!) adventures of Richard Bolitho (as well as several additional installments starring his nephew, Adam Bolitho) in Nelson's Navy, inevitably triumphing over not only the dastardly French, but also a virtually unrelieved succession of superior officers both arrogant and incompetent. (One wonders how the evil Corsican was ever defeated.) This was the third in the series, (U.K. edition 1969), though some of the later entries were in fact "prequels." 350 pp., here reduced from $35.
