Gillis of the Archives of Traditional Music Department at Indiana University. Hoagy Carmichael rose to great fame and popularity as a musician and songwriter in the 30s and 40s and is perhaps best remembered as the creator of the classic song ÒStardustÓ, the possible first regular piano composition of which is included in this exhibit, as well as the vocal edition, with words by Mitchell Parish. Also included are many musical manuscripts, sheet music; original recordings such as ÒGeorgia (On My Mind)Ó and ÒLazy BonesÓ; program notes, typed and autographed letters; film related material for such films as To Have and Have Not, Young Man With a Horn, The Best Years of Our Lives, etc., golf notes and miscellany, facsimiles of contracts, photographs, and much more. Laid in is a folded two page facsimile of the original manuscript for ÒStardustÓ. Carmichael appeared in many Hollywood movies, often as a piano player, including the classic To Have and Have Not. His is also known for "Lazybones," "Riverboat Shuffle," "Rockin' Chair," and other pieces of music. He was associated through the years with Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Joe Venuti, and others. This copy is the First Edition and bears the "R" colophon immediately above the copyright line. The price is not clipped. It is SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, inscribed on the FFEP.
