Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
Paper Ephemera. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Offered is an original thermal fax dated March 14, 1989 sent by Roger de Grey, President of the Royal Academy of Arts, to David Hockney (via Mr. Hockney's business office on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood). Measuring 8-1/2" by 12" the letter, which is dated "10 March 1989," reads in part: "David, We have been given the wonderful chance to benefit from the first night of the Bolshoi's season in London - 4th July - with a performance of Sleeping Beauty. Two things: firstly, would you join the Committee of Honour - this is the most important and would need only your consent; secondly, could we possibly use a piece of your work for the cover of the Gala Programme etc." Condition: upper edge age-toned and lightly worn. Provenance: I purchased this fax, along with several others, at a garage sale in West Hollywood in 1991 given by a young man who then worked at Data-Boy, now a long-defunct gay male bar publication, with its office located next to David Hockney's office on Santa Monica Boulevard and who had, on a few occasions, gone through their trash bin and removed several items of paper ephemera such as this one.
