Er wird als Pietist der Erweckungsbewegung zugerechnet und galt als hervorragender Prediger. Er erlangte nicht ganz den Ruhm seines älteren Bruders Ludwig (1798-1828), dessen Predigtsammlungen bis heute aufgelegt werden. Vermutl…ich wollte der Verlag an den Erfolg anknüpfen und gab den Predigtsammlungen der Brüder nahezu identische Titel und setzte auch jeweils eine "Mittheilung über den Lebensgang" voran. Das vorliegende Exemplar beeindruckt durch seinen wesentlich älter wirkenden Einband, der mit seinen starken Holdeckeln, Messingschließen und der blindgeprägten Verzierung mit Rollenstempeln an Einbände des 16. Jahrhunderts erinnert. - Papier gebräunt und stockfleckig.
