      HOFFECKER, John H. MEMORIAL ADDRESSES ON THE LIFE AND CHARACTER OF JOHN H. HOFFECKER, FEBRUARY 16 AND 23, 1901. Delivered in The House of Representatives and Senate, Fifty-Sixth Congress, Second Session. Washington, DC: Government Printing Office, 1901. Small quarto, embossed black cloth stamped in gilt; 67 pages. Portrait frontispiece of Hoffecker. Hoffecker (1827-1900) was from Smyrna, Delaware and studied civil engineering. He became a Republican and was president of the Smyrna town council from 1876 to 1898. He unsuccessfully ran for governor but was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1898. During a visit home he suffered a stroke and died on June 16, 1900. This book contains the memorial addresses given in Congress upon his death. Very Good (minor wear with gilt on the front cover nice & bright with a few light stains to the front cover; contents clean & tight with the ink name of "Van Murphy, Apr. 19/14" on the front endpaper; small chip to frontispiece tissue guard).
