It's about a professional killer named John Tree, whose full name is John Running Tree, member of the Shoshone tribe, Native American by both blood and culture. He's been summoned from his Wyoming ranch by the Chicago syndicate to go to New York City and dispose of an S. Harris. Like many fictional killers Tree has a code: he doesn't kill women. When he arrives in New York he learns that S. Harris is Susan Harris, which dismays him. Then he wonders if he can go thru with the job. Tree's ultimate decision is a turning point for S. Harris as well as himself. Book.

Square, tight and clean throughout with no toning or foxing. Mild rubbing to bottom edges and small bump to the lower front tip. Very attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($3.95), has a tiny crease and closed edge-tear. A touch of rubbing here and there. Flaps lightly toned. Still fresh and bright and presents very well. Though not marked in any way, this came directly from the library of H. Lawrence Hoffman who illustrated the dust-jacket. His son, David Hoffman, the noted documentary filmmaker, has signed a statement with information about his father, the artist, and attesting that the book was from his library. A copy of this is included. A very pretty collectable copy of a surprisingly quite uncommon title.
