First printing. Octavo; hardcover, with silver-gilt spine-titling and decorated boards; 254pp., with a monochrome frontispiece and 9 plates likewise. Near fine in a like slipcase. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. Robert Blair was about to knock off from a slow day at his law firm when the phone rang. It was Marion Sharpe on the line, a local woman of quiet disposition who lived with her mother at their decrepit country house, The Franchise. It appeared that she was in some serious trouble: Miss Sharpe and her mother were accused of brutally kidnapping a demure young woman named Betty Kane. Miss Kane's claims seemed highly unlikely, even to Inspector Alan Grant of Scotland Yard, until she described her prison - the attic room with its cracked window, the kitchen, and the old trunks - which sounded remarkably like The Franchise. Yet Marion Sharpe claimed the Kane girl had never been there, let alone been held captive for an entire month! Not believing Betty Kane's story, Solicitor Blair takes up the case and, in a dazzling feat of amateur detective work, solves the unbelievable mystery that stumped even Inspector Grant.

Elephant Folio. 154 pp. Color illustrations throughout. Gold boards stamped in black and blue. Gold slipcase stamped in blue. "Tarzan: The Deluge Strikes" poster laid in, signed by Hogarth as well and published by Ross Cochran in a print run of 1000. Boards lightly worn at extremities with a faint patch of staining to top of spine. Binding is sound. Short 1" tear along fore-edge of limitation page, but otherwise pages clean and unmarked. Poster lightly edgeworn. Slipcase shows shelfwear with some bumping and unfortunate staining/splatternalia to front.

The trial of Lady Chatterley was published as a Penguin special on 2nd February 1961. Of this edition, to which the report of a debate in the House of Lords has been added, there were two thousand copies, initialled by Allen Lane. This copy designated 'Out of Series.' Loosely inserted a 1pp folded printed card stating the book is a Christmas offering as an alternative to a Card. With the small attractive bookplate, showing a bookish owl, of ÔOzĠ publisher, later media tycoon, Felix Dennis (1947 -2014). He was also a distinguished poet, philanthropist, book collector and lover of trees (the Forest of Dennis.) Felix himself went through an obscenity trial over the OZ School Kid's issue10 years later About fine in very slightly creased very good dust jacket with slight closed tear and no loss. Signedes.

Of this edition, to which the report of a debate in the House of Lords has been added, two thousand copies, this being no. 1741 were printed, and signed by Allen Lane. Ownership signature of Margery Fisher 19131992, British literary critic and academic (closely associated with Penguin and Puffin). Including a couple of notes in her hand. About fine in slightly used and slighty discoloured, plain yellow, very good minus dust jacket.

Black cloth spine over red decorative paper-covered boards, red paper title labels, under beige dust jacket priced at $2.00 net. No flaws found to book, DJ has 1" chip to top of spine panel removing part of "T" in Basket. A lovely copy. A few of the Rockwell Kent illustrations in this book have a cartoon flavor, a clear nod to cartoon work of William Hogarth.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. LIMITED EDITION. Number 26 of 75 portfolios signed by Graves on the limitation page, with five loose lithographic illustrations of local life and landscape incorporating handwritten poems by Graves, each signed and numbered by the artist in pencil. Graves went to live in Deya, Majorca, in 1929 with his then partner Laura Riding. After building their own house, they quickly assimilated to Majorcan society and suffered home sickness when they had to leave Spain on the eve of the Civil War. Eventually Riding and Graves went their separate ways and Graves returned to Majorca in 1946 with a new wife and remained there until his death in 1985. Hogarth also set up home in Majorca in the late 1960s, renewing his acqaintance with Graves (they had produced their first book together, 'Majorca Observed', in 1965) and collaborating with him on the present portfolio. Folio (54.0 x 75.0 cm), original quarter oatmeal cloth with green boards, lettered in gilt to front cover, linen ties. Title, justification page, Introduction by the publisher Edward Booth-Clibborn, five prints with tissue guards, all in fine condition. The case without any of the usual fading or marking to the covers. A superb production. Signed by Author(s).
